Araucaria is a species of Araucaria known as hoop pine. Other less commonly used names include colonial pine and Queensland pine
This handsome, evergreen, dioecious tree reaches a height of 60-65 m in New Caledonia where it is indigenous. In India it does not attain such dimension and has a peculiar tendency to lean slightly sideways and produces reproductive organs in mild climate. Trunk straight, slender and tapering with rough, dark, grayish bark. Branches short, arranged in rather distant whorls; numerous small green branch-lets crowded and pinnately arranged on two stiff rows on either side of the branch, the tips of branch-lets either droop downward or turns gracefully upward.
Gardening: Araucarias grow in the tropical and subtropical climate. Equitable temperature is better than the extreme type. They prefer deep and fertile soil and stand partial shade.
